Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from Third Eye Blind's fourth studio album, Ursa Major. Frontman Stephan Jenkins explained to Alternative Addiction: "'Sharp Knife' is about guiltlessness, you know when people don't care about saying things; they just cut through feelings like a knife, not worrying about what other people think. Sometimes I'm like that and others I'm a bit of a wreck."
  • Third Eye Blind's next album, Dopamine, contains a song called "Blade." In our interview with Stephan Jenkins, he said that images of cutting implements show up in his dreams, often as an indicator of how he is trying to "cut through" tension or other problems in his life.
