• The second single released by Thomas Rhett poses a hypothetical question: If you could have a beer with Jesus, what would you say? Rhett penned the song with Rick Huckaby and Lance Miller.
  
  Rick Huckaby is the son of Rick Huckabay, Sr (1946-2006), who was a basketball coach, best known for his years with Marshall University where he compiled a 129-59 record. Huckaby Jr. is a Nashville songwriter whose credits include Trace Adkins' "Muddy Water" and "Jesus Come Talk To Your Children" from Tracy Lawrence's Christian album, The Rock.
  
  Lance Miller's country career was kick-started in 2004 when he came 4th on the second season of the reality television series Nashville Star. He signed with Warner Bros. Records three years later and has subsequently found success as a songwriting co-penning songs for the likes of Lee Brice ("Friends We Won't Forget") and Jerrod Niemann ("Shinin' On Me").
• Rhett explained the meaning of the song: "If Jesus was here today walking in the flesh like He was, back when He was here, I'd probably take him down to the Flying Saucer (in Nashville) and order up a Newcastle and just pick His brain about life," he said, "ask Him if I'm doing alright, ask Him how some of the people in my life that are close to me that have died, how they're doing in Heaven. So, it's just a really personal song to me."
• Rhett has heard stories from fans about how this song has affected their own lives ever since he began playing it in concerts. One tale in particular stands out, concerning a woman who called into a radio station in Pennsylvania saying that her son had just been killed in a car accident. "She came to my show in Pennsylvania and told me that her son's five best friends were at the funeral," explained Thomas, "and they played my song 'Beer with Jesus' and they all got baptized because of the song and what it did to them."
• Thomas Rhett studied business and communications at Lipscomb University in Nashville. This song came from one night in college where he was studying for a test. Thomas recalled: "I had been drinking a lot of caffeine and my brain was just racing. I had all these sticky notes lying around with song titles instead of studying. I just thought how it would be cool to sit talk to Jesus and be able to ask Him any question I wanted."
