Songfacts®:

  • "Gone Country" tells the story of a country boy roping himself a city girl. It explores the cultural clash and the girl's gradual embrace of the country lifestyle.
  • Rhett gives us a fun little Easter egg for fans of his family legacy.

He turned the key and took her on a Chevy ride
That radio was on, "That Ain't My Truck" from '95

"That Ain't My Truck" was a hit song by Rhett's father, Rhett Akins, released in 1995.
  • Rhett wrangled up a whole posse of songwriting heavyweights to help him pen the tune. We're talking Julian Bunetta (the guy behind many of One Direction's biggest hits), Jacob Kasher Hindlin (whose credits include Maroon 5's "Memories" and Morgan Wallen's "Last Night"), English producer Joe Reeves (Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen's "Broadway Girls." Machine Gun Kelly's "Pressure") and Nashville tunesmiths John Byron, Ryan Vojtesak and Rocky Block (all three have contributed to Morgan Wallen's hits).
  • The production team has some star power too, with Dann Huff (known for his work with Keith Urban and Lady A) and Charlie Handsome (Post Malone, Jack Harlow) joining Julian Bunetta.
  • "Gone Country" departs from some of Rhett's more introspective ballads such as "It Goes Like This," "Die a Happy Man" and "Remember You Young." It's a lighthearted, fun track that celebrates the joys of country life and finding love in unexpected places.
