Songfacts®:

  • Yep, this is the Tim Robbins - the American actor best known for his roles as Nuke in Bull Durham, Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption and as Dave Boyle in Mystic River. Robbins does have a musical pedigree - his father Gil was a member of the folk music group The Highwaymen, though he joined the outfit after they had a 1961 hit with, "Michael Row the Boat Ashore." Tim Robbins himself contributed songs to the 1992 musical comedy Bob Roberts.
  • This song is a Robbins original and has no connection with the Roy Orbison number of the same title. The actor/musician told Q magazine: "I wrote 'In Dreams' when I was in my 20s, young, poor and in love - a good place to write a song from."
