Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Tinashe's second album, the singer originally wrote the song with Hit-Boy and Travis Scott back in 2016. However When Scott started dating Rihanna, she, or someone from her team, heard the demo. The Bajan songstress briefly swiped the tune for her Anti album, but in the end didn't use it. Tinashe recalled to Vulture:

"It's kind of crazy and I'm not even 100 percent sure what happened. We created the track, I wanted it for my project, then all of a sudden I found out - I was told - that she had purchased the whole concept and beat for her project. Eventually when that didn't come out on her project, I was like, 'yup... still want it!' I named my album after it."
  • The incident messed up Tinashe's relationship with Scott for a while. She recalled to Billboard.

"I don't think I spoke to him for six months. But I guess eventually she didn't use the song, and I was like, 'I still want it! Can I have it back?' So I got it back, revamped it, took Travis off it, and now it's a new day!"
  • So why name the album Joyride? Tinashe explained to Consequence of Sound:

"It really represents the theme of Joyride, represents the entire concept of taking life as it comes and enjoying it for what it is. I felt like it was an important track for setting the tone, the theme, the mood of the entire project."
