Songfacts®:

  • Tokyo Police Club started off as a teenage band called Suburbia. They broke up in 2004, regrouped and changed to their current name. This was the first song that they wrote together. Here's what the band had to say about their early tune:

"We started Tokyo Police Club in high school and the very first song we wrote was 'Happy Valentines Day.' It's a rock song about a senior-year romance falling apart."
  • The band decided to re-record the tune in 2014 and shared it on their Tumblr page on Valentine's Day.
