Grey Cortina

Songfacts®:

  • If God in Heaven drives a Silver Thunderbird, Tom Robinson's ideal car was a grey Cortina. Running to a mere two minutes and ten seconds, this uptempo, overtly commercial Robinson composition was produced by Chris Thomas, like the rest of the album. "Grey Cortina" features Robinson on bass as well as vocal, and Danny Kustow on lead guitar. An obvious follow up to "2-4-6-8 Motorway," it was perhaps surprisingly not released as a single.
  • Although he experienced financial troubles after his initial success, Robinson made enough money to buy his dream car, but in October 2009, he sent this message to Songfacts, which we'll relay in context:

"i bought the cortina and it lasted 1 day before somebody ran into it and wrote it off (my fault) :-("
