Songfacts®:

  • Tom Walker wrote this song about a friend who went through a life-changing event as a teenager. It took him a long time to recover, but 15 years down the line, he's one of the happiest, most positive people Walker knows. Inspired by the way his pal has overcome the ordeal, Walker recounts the process of healing from a past trauma. He said: "It got me thinking that we can all go through tough times; it's what you choose to do after that's important. If something positive can come out of it, that's a really special thing."
  • Walker completed the song with regular George Ezra collaborators Joel Pott and Cam Backwood. The three also wrote his 2019 single "Better Half Of Me" together.
  • Recorded during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown "Wait For You" echoes themes from Walker's 2017 breakthough hit song "Leave a Light On."
