This was written by German producer Thomas Bruckner, aka Tomcraft, as an instrumental in 2001. It was based on a track "Share The Love" by Andrea Martin, which he picked up in a Munich charity shop. Thomas explained in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh, "I'd been working on some ideas for tracks with my studio partner Eniac, but there was something missing. One day I was in my local charity shop, where I always buy my second hand records, especially the '50 and '60s stuff, and I came across this amazing track, "Share The Love" by Andrea Martin on an old '70s album which I knew was exactly what I needed. I knew this British singer called Vivian and asked her to come in and update the sound, sped it up and it worked out brilliantly."
Thomas went on to explain why the song's title was "Loneliness" when it seems to be as much about happiness: "The lyrics say that happiness seems to be loneliness and loneliness killed my world. It doesn't really make much sense to me either, but I prefer it because of that. I like the idea that it is a bit crazy, it's just that kind of record."
This was a UK hit after Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules gave the track extensive airplay.
Will Young borrowed some of the lyrics for his 2015 single "Love Revolution."
"Loneliness" saw renewed popularity in 2023 after it soundtracked a party scene in the movie Saltburn.
Bruckner died on July 15, 2024, aged 49.

Frank from Bronx, Ny, UsaBruckner may have his story a tiny bit confused, with regards to how exactly he first discovered "Share The Love". It was first released on Andrea Martin's 1998 solo album. Him finding it on "an old '70s album" would be pretty amazing, considering Andrea Martin was BORN in 1975.

John from London, United KingdomOne of those so called 'DJ' dance tunes for which the singer gets as much credit as a terminally ill bankrupt. In this case the singer has a good deal to do with the success of the song which went to #1 in 2003. After seeing her performing it on Top of the Pops, I'd have thought a music biz mogul would have snapped her up, she had looks, charisma, and an unusual voice, yet nobody even knows who she is. Where the hell did all the svengalis go; did they all turn into Simon bloody Cowell?
