Songfacts®:

  • "Eyes Don't Lie" finds Tones And I letting go of a toxic relationship. At first she resents the emotions she gets as she feels she's lost a lover. As Tones pushes through the wreckage, she realizes she's better off without that other person. "Someone taking advantage of you and you taking advantage of yourself," she explained. "Feeling better off and putting that last bit of bitterness behind you."
  • Tones and I wrote "Eyes Don't Lie" with the song's producers Eren Cannata and Sam Homaee. It was the first co-write she'd ever done. "I've never worked in the room with anyone else," she told Smallzy of the Australian network Nova. "This is the first time I had someone else like helping me write the production of the song."
  • Tones and I directed the video alongside Nick Kozakis and Liam Kelly, the team behind the "Dance Monkey" clip. Filmed in locations near Newcastle, New South Wales, and Adelaide, South Australia, it shows the singer on her own lost in the outback. "The music video reflects being alone, but not lonely," she explained. "Escaping something that hurt and happy to be wherever else, even though it's over. I am still reflecting and telling my story one last time, before I move on."
