  • Tones and I (birth name Toni Watson) is an Australian pop singer-songwriter. After opening for Norwegian songstress Aurora, she had her own run of headline shows along the Australian East Coast in May 2019. "Johnny Run Away" is her debut single.
  • The song was inspired by Tones and I's best friend, who was struggling to come out to his disapproving father at a young age.

Take my heart, take my soul, share my crayons, share my goals
His daddy walked by with a sigh said Johnny sit by my side
I'm gonna give you the best advice you've ever heard in your life
See that boy named Jimmy, yeah, he's a cutie
But oh no Johnny no no no no ah ah ow

Tones and I told ABC: "It was really confronting because he's such a strong guy and he'd never spoken about that to me before."
  • Released on March 1, 2019, the song peaked at #12 on the ARIA Singles Chart.
