  • On July 12, 2020, Tory Lanez left a house party in the Hollywood hills with some others, including rapper Megan Thee Stallion. There had been an altercation at the party that turned violent, and the incident proceeded to an argument in the SUV. The LAPD arrived at the scene and arrested and charged Lanez with carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle. Megan Thee Stallion received injuries to both her feet, which needed surgery.

Initial reports stated that the wounds were caused by glass but Megan later claimed in an Instagram blog that Lanez shot her. This song finds him talking about the incident.
  • This is the opening track to Lanez's Daystar album, which was surprise released on September 25, 2020. "Money Over Fallouts" is the first time the rapper has addressed the shooting.
  • The song starts off with a media montage of newsreaders, podcasters and Megan herself talking about the event before Lanez tells his side of the story. The rapper questions in rhymes the reliability of the accounts of the incident and claims he's being stitched up.

Megan people trying to frame me for a shooting
But them boys ain't clean enough
I see how they teaming up, watching and I'm calculating
Gotta keep it quiet, I can't jeopardize the outcome waiting

Lanez's lawyers advised him to remain quiet about the case, but he denies shooting Megan. Lanez wrote on social media, "There is a time to stay silent. And a time to speak... I said all I could say on this."
  • Following a nine-day trial in a Los Angeles courtroom, on December 23, 2022, a jury unanimously found Lanez guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
