Songfacts®:

  • Here, Tove Lo sings about the gut-wrenching moment of seeing an ex dancing with his new girlfriend at a party.

I know I've got no right to
Really I just don't like you
Look prettier than I do tonight
You make it hard to have a good time

The singer has taken an immediate dislike to her former boyfriend's new love, purely out of spite.
  • Lo admits it's not fair to judge her ex's new girlfriend in this way, but she just can't help herself. "The hate you feel for the new person isn't something you should be proud of, it's not the right way to channel your feelings, but it's what you very naturally do," she told Billboard. "I feel like there's a 'new girl code' in place where you're supposed to support each other and not s----talk each other. We need to elevate each other to move forward, and I think that's kind of hinting to that, but you still honestly feel that feeling."
  • The song is a duet with Kylie Minogue, whom Tove Lo first met in 2018 when they both played the same AMFAR charity event in Hong Kong. The Aussie icon told the Swede she'd love to work with her. As Lo was writing for Sunshine Kitty her words were at the back of her mind and when she penned "Really Don't Like U," she felt like the song would be the perfect one for her voice. She told The Sun: "That song needs to have a sexy, sweet face on it."
