Songfacts®:

  • "Rhyfelgyrch Gwyr Harlech" is an ancient Welsh harp melody; according to Oswald Edwards in his 1989 monograph A Gem Of Welsh Melody, it may have been written during the siege of Harlech, 1408/9 but didn't appear in print until 1794 when it was published by Edward Jones in Relicks; it has also been suggested it was composed during the Wars Of The Roses, 1455-85. "Rhyfelgyrch Gwyr Harlech" is better known in English as "Men Of Harlech." >>>
