Songfacts®:

  • Here, Scott dives deep into the real deal of life, unraveling its twists and turns. He throws shout outs to the Almighty, thanking the Higher Power for every second he's rocking this ride. While he's showing love for the past, Scott's all about pushing ahead and keeping it moving.
  • Scott kicks off the track by hugging the wild ride of life, toasting to finding himself and leveling up.

In the next verse, he spits about talking to the Man upstairs, asking for a cleanse from the dark whispers the Devil plants in his dome. Trouble is, that devilish vibe keeps hanging around, making it a real brawl to shake off those thoughts.

He wraps up that verse with some divine gratitude for the journey and dives into the next one with the same vibe. But then things switch gears as Scott flexes on his grind and lasting success.
  • On the chorus, Kenyan-American artist KayCyy pours out gratitude to God for blessing him with life.
  • Just like Scott, KayCyy kicked off his music career by rolling with Kanye West. While working on Yeezy's 10th album, Donda, he linked up with La Flame and laid down a bunch of tracks.

Stormi Webster, Scott's 5-year-old daughter with Kylie Jenner, contributes a line. When Scott shouts out Stormi in the lyric, "Storm's a minor, but you know she's livin' major," she sweetly replies, "That's right, Daddy."
  • This is the second track on Utopia. Like several other tracks on the album, "Thank God" started out as a Kanye West song written for Donda that was given to Scott. Travis Scott and Kanye West have a close friendship and working relationship that dates back to Scott signing a publishing deal with West's G.O.O.D. Music imprint in 2012.
  • Scott co-produced "Thank God" with Kanye West, Allen Ritter, BoogzDaBeast, WondaGurl and FNZ. Yeezy, BoogzDaBeast, and FNZ were the original producers when West worked on the track for Donda. After he handed the song over to Scott, Ritter and WondaGurl helped him complete it.
