Songfacts®:

  • This track from Tremonti's second album Cauterize finds lead singer Mark Tremonti singing about holding everything in - while others may forgive or ignore wrongdoings, the narrator here seethes, and is willing to take it to the grave.
  • The title has nothing to do with the lyrical content of the song; it's called "Flying Monkeys" because the song originated with a riff Mark Tremonti used to play at soundcheck to check his gear. Their drum tech told him that it sounded like the flying monkeys scenes from the movie The Wizard Of Oz, so when he formed a song out of the riff, he had the title in mind.

"For years when I logged my ideas on my hard drive I would just label that riff as 'Flying Monkeys,'" Tremonti told us. "When that song finally got put together, it couldn't be anything but 'Flying Monkeys.'"
