Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Trey Songz's eighth album, "Back Home" finds him singing about a tumultuous relationship. He accuses his partner of being a fairweather lover; she's good to be with when things are easy between them, but walks out as soon as there's any friction.

Songz' fellow R&B singer Summer Walker gives the girlfriend's point of view. Though her lover gets on her "damn nerves," she misses him when they're not together. They both agree it must be love because however awkward things are between them, they keep coming "back home."
  • During the hook, Songz interpolates the melody and cadence of the chorus from New Edition's 1988 single "If It Isn't Love."
  • Released on April 29, 2020 as the lead single from Back Home, this topped the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart. It was Trey Songz' third #1 on the tally and Summer Walker's first.
  • Trey Songz dropped the quarantine-style video at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The heartwarming visual features shots of the singer's family and his celebrity friends during the lockdown. There are clips showing Songz on the basketball court, family haircuts in the kitchen, and scenes involving 50 Cent and Megan Thee Stallion.

"One thing that's certain is that we are right now in times that none of us have ever experienced," Songz wrote on Instagram. "I thought it would be special to put together a time capsule of both my intimate and extended family living through what we would have never imagined."
