Songfacts®:

  • Speaking of his songwriting process to The Gospel Coalition, Lee explained that "personally, my songwriting process differs from song to song. Some songs are more reflective so they come out quickly and easily. Others may require further study, etc., so it is a longer process." The Invasion was a song he enjoyed writing because it allowed him to try to teach and celebrate meaningful values in a form that they aren't traditionally.
  • The lyrics of the song are very explicitly descriptive, painting a picture of a modern world ravaged by a broad variety of woes. Lee explores how these maladies came about, and then proceeds to describe the ways he believes they will be swept away when God finally decides to fix the world. It's a heavily Christian song, like many Lee works, but also works in insightful perspectives on many contemporary social issues. When we spoke with Lee in 2012, he revealed, "There wasn't anything really Christian about our home. We went to church on Sundays. We didn't pray and read the bible or anything. But they took me to church somewhat regularly."
  • The song appears on 2010's Between Two Worlds, Lee's third album. Explaining the title, Lee said that he wanted to capture the dualism he felt from living in a broken, troubled world, while believing that eventually he'll find himself in Heaven.
  • "The Invasion" is the counterpart to another song that appears on the album, "Invade." The latter song cries out about the broken state of our world, while the former celebrates the redemptive power that Lee believes would come about from a second coming of Jesus Christ.
