Songfacts®:

  • Vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy told Artist Direct: "'Becoming the Dragon' is actually a title I got from a book called Geek Love, which is about a family of circus freaks and all the stuff that goes along with that. The book had a chapter called 'Becoming the Dragon.' I took it in a different way. It was more about the Japanese mythology. I remember when I read it. There are some things that we borrow from things and some that we pull out originally. The book was recommended to me by the artist Paul Romano."
  • The Solo that starts at 3:43 and fades away along with the song is bassist Paolo Gregoletto with a wah pedal. >>

  • Long from Slidell, LaWhile I do agree with the fish turning into a dragon legend, I also think this song could talk about a weak person becoming stronger. They had a lot of struggles and challenges, but they managed to find a way to overcome and they have become stronger. They have turned from a koi to a Dragon. Which is cool, because I admire Dragons.
