Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Troye Sivan imagines growing old with his significant other, spending their last days in each other's company. The title and initial inspiration came from the 1986 song "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" by The Smiths, where Morrissey sings: "To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die."

According to the press release for the album, Sivan heard the song on a road trip with his partner and "pictured them 30 years later, 'two old gay guys' listening back and reminiscing."
  • Sivan is particularly proud of the second verse of this song:

When our promise has come and gone
And our youth is all but melted, melted
We can listen to this song
So we don't have to accept it, accept it
Just as long as you'll be home
    In the one we've manifested-fested
Oh oh, just take in it all

"It makes me really soft and mushy," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I had this really sweet image of the old man from Up [2009 animated Disney film] listening to that song with his gay boyfriend."
