  • A few days before Christmas 2019, Tucker Beathard's 22-year-old brother Clay was stabbed and killed after an altercation at the Nashville bar The Dogwood. The horrible tragedy plays out in the closing song of the singer's King album, titled in tribute to his fallen sibling (Clayton King Beathard).
  • Let me carry on, keep movin' on down the road
Let 'em call me strong, but we both know
    I ain't, I ain't, I ain't without you

Beathard realized he didn't have the strength to deal with such a harrowing, life-changing event alone, but was strengthened by his faith in Jesus Christ. "I've always been scared having to deal with something that tough because I knew I wouldn't be strong enough and I definitely wasn't wrong," Beathard told Taste of Country. "But I did underestimate that power and it was something I was experiencing first-hand during that time."
  • Beathard knew there was only one other person who would understand what he was going through - his songwriter father Casey Beathard (Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Rascal Flatts). Together, they penned this emotional but hopeful acoustic song.

"I knew the only person that could relate to what I was saying was my dad, because he was right there with me through this, and we were going through the same exact thing," Beathard told Apple Music. "It was a special song to be able to write with him in that time of both of our lives."
  • Beathard first performed "I Ain't Without You" at the Grand Ole Opry on February 22, 2020. The song's music video shows the singer making his way into the historic venue before re-creating his performance.
