  • Tulisa called this, her third solo single, a "Christmassy ballad," adding, "I think it's important for every artist to have that ballad that stands the test of time." The song was released on November 25, 2012 as a double A-side with "Freedom," a track written and produced by fellow N-Dubz musician Fazer.
  • Speaking of the song to MTV.UK, Tulisa said: "The Female Boss is not going soft by bringing out a ballad, just because someone is 'a female boss' doesn't mean they don't have a heart. The Female Boss does not just represent being hard, it's about female empowerment and a feminine trait is to have emotions and to be able to express those emotions. I do have a very sensitive side, I am a highly emotional person if I don't always let it show but you might see it now and then on The X Factor."

Tulisa continued: "I've always wanted to release a ballad, I never really got to do it with N-Dubz. The closest I got to that was 'Best Behaviour' and we were accommodating for each other as a three. Now I get to do it.

I just absolutely love the song, it's not because I am singing it, anyone in the world could sing this song and I would be like 'I have to have that song'."
  • The song was produced by American songwriter The-Dream whose other credits include Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Justin Bieber's "Baby."
  • The song's music video shows Tulisa catching her boyfriend cheating on her in a pool hall. The singer wrote the treatment herself and it was directed by Luke Hyams.
  • Tulisa's cheating beau is played in the video by Jody Latham, who is best known for his roles as Phillip "Lip" Gallagher in the Channel 4 series Shameless and Rob Grayson in the BBC Soap opera EastEnders.
