Songfacts®:

  • "Honolulu Baby" was the B-side of the 1975 single "The Trail Of The Lonesome Pine." Written by Marvin Hatley, it was originally recorded for the 1933 film Sons Of The Desert and featured vocalist Ty Parvis, although it was also performed impromptu by Oliver Hardy strumming his ukulele.
  • Songwriter Hatley, or to give him his full name Thomas Marvin Hatley (1905-86), was a composer and musical director who did a lot of work for the Hal Roach studio. It was Roach who churned out the string of comedies for which Laurel & Hardy became famous.
  • The song is not to be confused with the earlier "Sleepy Honululu Baby" or the even earlier "My Honolulu Ukulele Baby." >>>
