Songfacts®:

  • This two minute '90s-channeling R&B cut finds Tyler the Creator telling the story of his encounter with a down-on-her-luck woman during a road trip. After buying her some food, he becomes infatuated with the girl and offers to whisk her off to the Cannes film festival in France. Before she replies, Tyler realizes he doesn't know what she is called, so he asks her:

What's your name, girlfriend, what's your name
  • Tyler directed the video under his Wolf Haley moniker. It begins with him explaining he met "she" while on a road trip hunting down brioche, with Madeline's Madeline actress Helena Howard playing the love interest. The clip then tells the story of the lyrics until the twist at the end when we learn that the girl is totally unaware of Tyler's crush.
  • YoungBoy Never Broke Again raps the second verse, which finds him lovestruck in a similar way. The Bouton Rouge rapper tells the object of his affection the time he spends with her is more meaningful than splashing out on fashion.
  • Ty Dolla $ign is also credited as a featured artist, though his contribution is restricted to ad-libs. Meanwhile, DJ Drama serves as a backup vocalist.
  • Tyler produced the track himself. He incorporates a sample of H-Town's 1994 song "Back Seat (Wit No Sheets)."
  • Speaking to Elliott Wilson and Brian "B.Dot" Miller of the Interval Presents podcast Rap Radar, Tyler, the Creator shared the backstory behind his collaboration with YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Tyler revealed that he initially sent the song concept to YoungBoy, and to his surprise, received a verse back within a single day. "When I made ['WusYaName'], I just knew I wanted that Louisiana drawl, tone, accent over that loop," he recounted. "I asked him like, 'Yo, I kind of got this idea. Want to do this?'"

Tyler commended YoungBoy's dedication and focus, contrasting it with the tendency of some rappers to lose track of the song's theme and simply freestyle. In contrast, YoungBoy not only stayed on topic but also delivered an exceptional performance that resonated with Tyler.
