Songfacts®:

  • A very early U2 song, "Another Day" has a "seize the day" lyric from Bono - a theme he would revisit often. It was released as a single, but only in Ireland, where the group had a deal with CBS Records. The song didn't appear on an album until 2008, when it showed up on the remastered edition of their debut album, Boy.
  • This song did well in Ireland, earning the group an international deal with Island Records, which teamed them with producer Steve Lillywhite for Boy. From there, they were off and running.
  • Bono said in the book Race Of Angels: "I remember getting Edge an echo unit and saying, 'Use this, because this will get us to another place. This will get us outside of the concrete - into the abstract.'

I just knew that the echo unit would do that. Atmospheres - we were very interested in atmospheric music. Punk started to look incredibly limited. It seemed so rigid, not just musically, but it started to have a rulebook and codes. And then I remember Joy Division came along, and I really related to that, because of the moods and atmosphere. And David Bowie's Low - that was very interesting. That's where we were. So we started with that thing." >>>

  • U2 recorded this with producer Chas de Whalley at CBS Studios in London.
  • The B-side of the single contains an early version of "Twilight," a song that later appeared on Boy.
