This was one of the earliest songs written by Mike Leander and Eddie Seago, who are best known for their work with Gary Glitter. Leander also arranged strings for The Rolling Stones.
This was from the album The Sun, The Wind and Other Things, whose title was a poke at American family group The Cowsills' hit single, "The Rain, The Park And Other things."

And it wasn't until 10 minutes ago (May, 2024) that I heard the original Pop version...and find it quite amazing!

On this hit, "Early In The Morning" the Kansas City area rock & roll radio stations had it ranked higher in their top ten. I'm surprised that Billboard had it at only #12. Our area radio stations ranked it higher & I think that is better reflection of its popularity here in 1969. Over and out !
