Songfacts®:

  • As the TV show Ally McBeal was coming to a close in 2002, Vonda Shepard was trying to get her own groove back after being the defining voice of the series since its inception. Her imagination had other ideas, however, during the production of her Chinatown album. While penning the song "Rain or Shine," she couldn't shake the image of Ally (Calista Flockhart) and Larry (Robert Downey Jr.) from her mind. She told us that the chorus in particular was inspired by the onscreen couple. "'There's rhythm, we came together rain or shine, I'll love you all my life.' I could see the whole thing," she said. (Here's our full interview with Vonda Shepard.)
