Songfacts®:

  • This mellow track from Washington, DC rapper Wale finds him spitting verses about his lady love while LA R&B singer Miguel provides the hook. The song is from his sophomore LP Ambition, Wale's first album to come out under Maybach Music.
  • The song title was inspired by Viktor & Rolf's luxury fragrance Flowerbomb, which was released in collaboration with L'Oreal in 2005. It was the Amsterdam-based fashion house's first ever perfume and according to Victor & Rolf it is, "a flowery scent to celebrate the timelessness of elegance and the absolute of modernity."
  • The song's music video was directed by TAJ and shot in Atlanta. The clip features America's Next Top Model contestant Bre Scullark as Wale's love interest at the hair salon. The visual references one of the D.C. rapper's favorite films, as we see him revisiting Tupac's role in John Singleton's Poetic Justice movie. "We wanted to pay homage to one of my favorite love stories, Poetic Justice, Wale revealed to Rap-Up.com. "I play the mailman coming to the salon. It's my acting debut. I feel acting is something I can do easily 'cause I can tell myself that I'm somebody and become them."
  • Wale and Miguel met after the D.C. MC reached out to him on Twitter. "He had heard a song on my album called 'Vixen' and had an idea for a record," Miguel recalled to Billboard magazine. "Wale basically quarterbacked the whole thing."
  • Atlanta rapper Roscoe Dash claimed on Twitter that he wrote the song's hook. "The record went #1 & I wasnt credited," he tweeted. Miguel responded during an interview with Complex magazine by calling the situation "retarded."
  • The rapper Bow Wow passed on Jerrin Howard's beat for this song before Wale got hold of it, because nothing was sticking when he was trying to write rhymes for it.
