  • The conveniently titled lead single for Heads Up sees the LA band compare falling head-over-heels in love to the thrill of hearing a great piece of music for the first time.
  • "New Song" was born out of the Warpaint ladies larking around by tasking each other with writing a tune immediately after hearing another song. Jenny Lee Lindberg's choice was Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." She said:

"I love Nile Rodgers - I love his style. That song made me really happy, so I was like, 'Okay, well, I'm going to try and put a little Nile Rodgers feel to it.' His part is like a rhythm guitar, but I'm playing it on the bass. I got a disco beat playing. And so 'New Song' sounds nothing like 'Get Lucky,' but that's what I wrote literally after I was given that assignment."
  • The song is distinctly more poppy and straightforward than Warpaint's other material. "People love it but there was a little bit of a backlash, like 'what are they doing, are they going in this direction now, is there a sell-out thing that's happening?' It's harder for people to accept," the band's Theresa Wayman told The Independent.

"We like to experiment, do really off-kilter, dissonant songs," she added. "But for us it's really fun to be more straightforward because we'd never really done it before. We're exploring these new territories and avenues. It's nice to not be in a box."
