Songfacts®:

  • This was originally written for Paula Abdul as "Shirley Temple Doesn't Live Here," but Abdul's people turned it down.
  • This was co-written by Bob Dylan. David Was of Was (Not Was) told Mojomagazine May 2008 how their collaboration happened: "Bob Dylan and I were sitting in the lounge. Don (Was) walked in and he said, 'Hey David, we gotta write that song for Paula Abdul. It's like signing a name to a cheque for half a million dollars!' Bob perks up. 'Half a million dollars! David, get a pen and paper, we're gonna write a song for Paula Abdul.' You know he's such a master maskmaker you never know whether you're being put on or not, but I got the pen and we traded lines."
  • Boo! was the Detroit duo's first album since 1992's Hello Dad…I'm In Jail. In the interim they'd kept themselves busy songwriting and producing for other people and in Don Was' case playing bass for the Rolling Stones.
