Songfacts®:

  • We The Kingdom is a multigenerational group of musicians featuring members of the Cash family, most notably producer Ed Cash (Bethel, Chris Tomlin, NeedtoBreathe, Brandon Heath). The band also contains Scott Cash, Franni Rae Cash, Martin Cash and Andrew Bergthold. The group's name comes from the idea that the kingdom of God is not merely referring to heaven but is here among us.
  • The five band members wrote this song about the power of forgiveness and what it really means to be forgiven by God. It's a celebration of God's mercy towards our sinning, which singer compares to "sweet honey on my lips, "the sound of a symphony to my ears" and "holy water on my skin."
  • The bridge takes inspiration from the Book of Romans, where St. Paul discusses not taking God's forgiveness for granted.

I don't wanna abuse Your grace
God, I need it every day
It's the only thing that ever really
    Makes me wanna change

Just because God's mercy is so plentiful, it doesn't mean we should abuse it. Instead, it should be our motivation for becoming a better person by the spirit of God.
