Songfacts®:

  • It sounds like Rivers Cuomo, Weezer's lead singer, spent much of his teenage years in the garage. He could have been a bit self-conscious about performing his music in public, and he describes his garage as a safe place where he keeps some of his belongings: "I've got posters on the wall, my favorite rock group Kiss." His garage was probably a place where he could get away from it all and just write, play music, or just ponder life. It could be that Rivers didn't think Weezer would become this big, that maybe they would just be a regular garage band. >>

  • There is fuzz bass effect on this track, which is not typical of the album, but helped give the song a garage rock sound to keep with the theme.
  • Address of the garage: 2226 Amherst Avenue, West Los Angeles, California. The band moved into this place in April 1992, where its 1-car garage/laundry room was converted into a practice and demo recording spot. The landlords in the main house were rightfully confused, having been told the guys were UCLA film students. >>

  • "In The Garage" is an album cut from Weezer's self-titled debut, now known as "The Blue Album" because they've released other albums called Weezer, but with different colored backgrounds so we can identify them. The first single from the album was "Undone - The Sweater Song," with put Weezer on the map. The album ended up selling over 3 million copies in America - a very impressive debut.
  • The song was used in the 2024 season 3 episode of The Bear, "Forever." Weezer's song "Say It Ain't So" was used in an earlier episode that season.

  • Uhhhhh from Haverford, Pathe harmonica solo is fire
  • Zero from The Abyss, NjThis song reminds me (lyrically, not musically) of "Joe's Garage" by Frank Zappa.
  • Raunchy from Tulsa, OkA really cool song! As a kid, I used to kick back with my cousins in the garage. In high school, me & my cousins jammed our band in that funky old garage. It had bats, rats, and awful acoustics! It was just a special place to get away to & play our music. And it wasn't a sad existence!! It was sorta fun. Guys gotta have our "get-aways" to unwind. Yeah!!!!! Love that line about "Kitty Pryde." The fuzz bass on this song is so cool the way it wavers.
  • Elmer H from Westville, OkI still love this song from '94 off "the Blue Album." I got into Weezer when my brother, who was in college at the time, got "the Blue Album" and I got exposed to Weezer. I loved nearly everything on it. And after that, I bought nearly every Weezer album. "In The Garage" seemed like a tribute to a guy's personal "get away" from the outside world. It doesn't necessarily make the guy a nerd or mental case, because everyone has their own "get away" from whatever stresses them out. In Weezer's situation, it was where they jammed or practiced, plus a place to chill-out under your own terms with your favorite things around too. In one sense, the song is easy for a lot of fans to relate to. Now, almost 20 years has passed since I first heard the song. Can't believe it's been that long. But I still love Weezer & their songs!
  • Joe from Chicago, Ili can relate to this song in so many ways. its like an anthem for anyone who stas home in fear of the world
  • Tyler from Apple Valley, CaThat's interesting, Brett. On the inside of the CD booklet for the album, there is a picture of a garage w/ Weezer's instruments in it.
  • Brett from Madison, WiThe garage is the name of Weezer's recording studio
  • Calvin from Kyle, TxThis song is easily one of my favorite weezer songs ever. Mainly because its great to see someone just straight up say hes a nerd and not care. also because i got all the references. thus lumping me into the same category. just a great heart felt song about the place that makes him feel safe and at home.
  • J from Nyc, NyI like this song, it probably is about him, I kind of hope not though, that's a pretty sad existence. If it is, kudos, it take a lot of courage to reflect back to oneself and honestly reflect about your insecurities.
  • Adam from Portland, Or"I've got Kitty Pryde / and Nightcrawler too / waiting there for me": Kitty Pryde (aka Shadowcat) and Nightcrawler are both characters in the X-Men comics.
  • James from Albuquerque, Nmi agree lexie. the song hit deep for me.
