Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Rivers Cuomo sings about how when he meets a girl, he starts to fall in love with her and thinks she's the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with, only to find out she's a lesbian (in Nazi Germany, an upside down pink triangle was used to identify lesbians - it has since been appropriated as a gay pride symbol). He wants to know why she can't be a little straight, since everyone is a little bit queer. >>>

  • Matt Sharp was busy working on his side project, The Rentals, when the band headed to the studio to remix the song for radio airplay. Scott Riebling (former Letters to Cleo bassist) filled in for the "Pink Triangle" sessions, which wouldn't be released until the 2010 deluxe edition of Pinkerton.
  • A radio contest was held with the promise of the band playing at the winner's high school. As a result, Weezer performed an acoustic version of this song at Shorecrest High School in Seattle, Washington, on November 6, 1996. Footage of the performance is included on many of the band's releases, including on their 2004 DVD, Video Capture Device.
  • On the album, this song is segued with the following track, "Falling For You."

  • Fire Emoji from UkEvery time I listen to this song I giggle a bit bcz i'm a lesbian and it's funny as hell because I know like 4 guys that have had a crush on me that must relate to this song
  • Adrianna from Harrisburg, PaWhen i first heard this song I thought a bunch of guys were sitting around talking and someone brought up the WWII gay thing and someone goes "Dude, what if someone found out that the love of their life is gay like that?!" and they were all like "YEAH!" and thus a song was born.
  • Joe from Chicago, Ilthis song would have fit perfectly in kevin smiths "chasing amy" film about a guy who falls in love with a lesbian
  • Danny from Place, Ma"If we're all a little queer, why can't she be a little straight" is one of my favorite Weezer lines.
  • Adrian from Houston, United Kingdomi love this song, i want to name my child rivers
  • Brad from Lexington, KyThis song is hilarious.
  • G L0 from Buffalo, NyDoubt me if you must, but this actually did happen to me in a way. It's kind of funny looking back on it now, especially having found this song
  • Walker from Clackamas, OrOh my god, Your name's Walker, too! I thought I was the only one! But anyway, this song is awesomely bittersweet. I like the slow part near the end.
  • Jeff from Austin, TxI agree, one of my favorite Weezer songs. The melody is catchy as hell, and the lyrics are very emotional.
  • Walker from Waukee, IaI love this song. Not only does it feature a great melody, but it also dictates a wonderfully heartbreaking story told masterfully be Rivers Cuomo. At first, it sounds like any other love song, but then comes the great chorus letting us know the truth.
