Songfacts®:

  • When this topped the UK charts, Westlife became the first act to reach #1 with their first seven releases. They also equaled The Beatles' record of most consecutive #1s. Westlife's eighth release, "What Makes A Man," was prevented from reaching the top spot by Bob The Builder's children's novelty record "Can We Fix It?"
  • This was voted ITV's 2000 Song Of The Year by its viewers.
  • The album version includes a spoken introduction in which Westlife are stuck in an airport.
  • The CIA used this song as a torture (or as they refer to it, "enhanced interrogation") device on Suleiman Abdullah, a newlywed fisherman from Tanzania. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, Abdullah had married just two weeks before he was captured in Somalia in 2003. The US intelligence service looped "My Love"' at high volume, interspersed with heavy metal as part of a scheme to assault prisoners' senses.
