Songfacts®:

  • Wet Leg is a rock duo comprising vocalist Rhian Teasdale and guitarist Hester Chambers. The pair first met at Isle of Wight College, and after 10 years of friendship, they formed a band. "Angelica" is a single from their eponymous debut album.
  • Teasdale named the track after her oldest friend, Angelica. She set the synth-infused track at a house party, drawing on her own experiences. "We've been to a lot of rubbish parties together," she told Apple Music regarding her pal. "We've also been to a lot of good parties together, but I thought it would be fun to put her name in the song and have her running around as the main character."
  • While Angelica commands the room at the party, Teasdale doesn't want to be there. "Other people are feeling the same, but you are all just fervently, aggressively trying to force yourself to have a good time," she explained to NME. "And actually, it's not always possible to have good times all the time."
  • Wet Leg's session and touring synth player Joshua Mobaraki recorded "Angelica" in Chambers' living room.
  • Wet Leg self-directed the '70s-inspired video set on the Isle of Wight. It's described as "an unbridled record of Rhian and Hester's friendship complete with high-kicks, fisticuffs, kiss-and-make ups, vast amounts of hair and even more dancing."

  • Leftcoast from LaThe thing I love about their videos is Hester Chambers dancing. She dances like she doesn't care there is a camera there. We all like to think we look that cool rocking out to our favorite music, but we mostly don't. Just HC does!
