• There are plenty of soul reference points on White Denim's Stiff album. This song, for instance evokes Curtis Mayfield. Vocalist James Petralli told The Austin Chronicle: "It really started with me, sitting in my garage, playing around with 'Pusherman.' R&B, in general, is where it's at for me. That's my biggest thing. I listen to (KUTX's) The Happy Feet Dance Party, man."
• This is one of five titles on Stiff that boast brackets. Petralli explained to Uncut; "I really just wanted to drive home the humor aspect. There's no other reason. We enjoyed deciding what words to use in the brackets, and where to put them - in the middle of the title maybe? We're always bad about naming our songs, too. Half the tunes in our catalogue have titles, but we don't call them that, we still refer to them by the working titles. And the working title will change as we're working on it, so half the band will think it's this rather than that, and there are moments in rehearsal where we'll count off and half the band is playing a different song. We're not on the same page with working titles. So I was just kind of speaking to that.
  
  And it looks really funny too. I get a kick out of imagining it on satellite radio, and it's playing, this funny title scrolling across the digital screen."
