Songfacts®:

  • This Christian rock anthem was written by White Heart band member Mark Gersmehl before he co-founded the band. In meetings with prospective music publishers for his songs, Gersmehl would usually play this number first, as it was the only song he had at the time that he felt confident about playing for people. Some publishers suggested he change the verse, whilst others said the chorus needed altering. However Gersmehl didn't change anything. He told CCM Top 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music: "My songs have been greatly aided by constructive criticism throughout my entire career. But this was one time when I didn't change a single word or note."
  • Among the all-star choir who sang on this song's chorus were Scott Wesley Brown, Amy Grant, Russ Taff and Kathy Troccoli.

  • Mike from Norwalk, CtSaw them in concert a few times over the years back then in the 80s. They were so nice and actually took time to pray with me after a concert. I'll never forget that!
