Songfacts®:

  • When singer-songwriter Issey Cross received her first guitar for her 13th birthday she rapidly started writing her own songs. Within a year she'd started playing gigs in her local Kent pubs performing under the name Issey C, and in early 2021 Cross released her debut EP, Mirrors Don't Lie.

Here, Wilkinson enlists Issey Cross' soft vocal tones for a drum and bass track. "I've wanted to make something rolling, with a sweet vocal sound for a while now," he told Our Culture, "so it just came together really organically."
  • The gentle dance jam finds Cross having a euphoric time clubbing with her partner and not wanting the night to end. "I could get used to this," she croons.
  • Wilkinson and Cross co-wrote "Used To This" with Bradford Ellis of the UK production/songwriting/DJ duo The Nextmen. Ellis also helped Wilkinson pen his breakthrough single featuring Becky Hill, "Afterglow."
  • Released as the fourth single from Cognition, "Used To This" became Wilkinson's first UK Top 40 single since his 2014 collaboration with Talay Riley, "Dirty Love."
  • The Jackson Ducasse-directed video finds Cross spreading paint all over her body. Ducasse is a frequent collaborator of Amy Macdonald, shooting three visuals from her The Human Demands album, "Crazy Shade of Blue," "Fire" and "Statues."
