Songfacts®:

  • Húsavík is a small town on the north coast of Iceland, which lies on the shores of Skjálfandi bay. It served as the setting of the 2020 Netflix comedy film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which stars Will Ferrell (Lars) and Rachel McAdams (Sigrit) as no-hoper Húsavík band Fire Saga. The duo fluke their way into representing Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest after a boat disaster wipes out their fellow competitors.
  • Lars and Sigrit perform this ode to their hometown during the climax of the film. Ferrell sang his own vocals in the movie, while McAdams' voice was harmonized with the vocals of Swedish singer Molly Sandén (aka My Marianne).
  • Eurovision's music producer, Savan Kotecha (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato), wrote the song with Carolina Liar guitarist Rickard Göransson and the track's producer Fat Max Gsus.

"I have to give a lot of the credit to the co-writers Fat Max and Rickard Göransson," Kotecha told Vulture. "I had them try to come up with ideas, because this one wasn't necessarily clear. It could change the story if you get it right; it adds so much heart to the story. They came and they presented this rough melody with some of the lyrics, and we talked about the themes of the lyrics, and about what the characters are kind of going through, because this one is personal for Rachel's character. You have to see the movie, but it ties their relationship together."
  • Sigrit sings the post-chorus in her native Icelandic language in homage to her hometown. Translated into English it reads:

    (All I long for is)
To be with you, with you
    In Húsavík by Skjálfanda
    My hometown
