Songfacts®:

  • Winger is remembered as one of the better Hair Bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s, becoming MTV stars when two songs from their 1988 debut album - "Headed for a Heartbreak" and "Seventeen" - went in rotation on MTV.

The band is fronted by Kip Winger, a former member of Alice Cooper's band, and included Reb Beach, Paul Taylor, and Rod Morgenstein. "Can't Get Enuff" was the lead single from their second album, which like the first, went Platinum in the US. Winger seemed headed for superstardom, but musical tastes changed dramatically in the early 1990s, and they broke up in 1994. They got back together in the '00s and recorded a new album called IV in 2006. >>>

  • Written by Kip Winger and guitarist Reb Beach, this song has the typical Winger swagger and familiar subject matter: lusting after a girl. Kip Winger would later record orchestra music and release solo material, but when he writes for Winger, he typically puts a lot of attitude into the songs, avoiding personal subjects.

Winger songs start with the riffs and can get pretty intricate in their arrangements, allowing the band to showcase their musicianship. The lyrics always come last.
  • Using "Enuff" as an alternate spelling of "Enough" was big at the time: The Fabulous Thunderbirds had a hit with "Tuff Enuff" in 1986, and there was another band called Enuff Z'Nuff who charted with "New Thing" in 1989 and "Fly High Michelle" in 1990.
  • Michael Bay - the same guy who directed the Transformers movies - directed the video for this song. Kip Winger wanted it look like a Coke commercial, which at the time meant sweaty and somewhat lascivious. Bay had just started directing music videos; his work included "Soldier of Love" for Donny Osmond and "Angelia" for Richard Marx.
