Songfacts®:

  • The first British singles chart was published in November 1952 by New Musical Express, coinciding almost exactly with the advent of rock and roll and the crossover of many black artists from what was then known as "race music" to a white, predominantly teenage audience. So, it was not surprising that a black artist should soon top the UK chart. The first black artist to do so was not Chuck Berry, however, who had to wait until 1972 with his "My Ding-a-Ling," but a musician from an entirely different genre.

The instrumentalist Winifred Atwell (1914-83) was a classically trained pianist who ventured into boogie woogie and other popular music. "Let's Have Another Party," which reached #1 on December 4, 1954, held the top spot for five weeks.
  • This is not a song, but a medley that includes "Bye Bye Blackbird" and "Knees Up Mother Brown." >>>
