Songfacts®:

  • According to the band's official biography, "Helpless" was the only track on the album not recorded at Surrey Sound Studios, but at Ian Gillan's Kingsway Recorders (formerly De Lane Lea); bass player and vocalist Martin Turner said it was a good song but didn't rate it, saying, "For me, it was kind of trying a bit too hard."
  • A single, recorded live from Live Dates 2 was released in both 7-inch and 12-inch formats in 1980, and like all Ash singles before and since, it bombed. The B-side was the equally commercial "Blowin' Free." >>>
