This cut finds Wiz Khalifa linking up with Nicki Minaj as they talk about how people's reaction to their success shows up what they're really like – their true colors.
This is the first official collaboration between Wiz Khalifa and Nicki Minaj, The two MCs were actually both too busy to cut the track together in the studio, so they mailed their verses to each other instead.
Though many have supported Khalifa throughout his career, some of his friends have turned green with envy at his success. The Pittsburgh MC values those who have remained loyal to him. "Me, I make different types of songs. Some are for the club, some are for the smokers and some are very inspirational and motivational," Khalifa told MTV News. "Songs like 'This Plane' and things like that with a message behind it and that's what True Colors is more down the line of."
The color green is very significant to Khalifa as it represents two important things in his life - marijuana and money. That is why the green he raps about being inside his pocket, is his true colors.

Minaj on the other hand is obsessed with the color pink to the extent that she has branded it as her trademark. She concludes her verse with a reference to her upcoming album: "Pink is the new color. I can't wait till they see the Pink Print cover."
The song is a spin on Cyndi Lauper's 1986 hit of the same title.
