Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Wolf Alice frontwoman Ellie Rowsell singing of how, "my loving kills me slowly." The song was inspired by American socialite Edie Sedgwick, who formed part of the artist Andy Warhol's Factory scene in New York in the '60s. Sedgwick was plagued by mental health issues and drug addictions and died of an overdose in 1971, at the age of 28. Rowsell told Tonedeaf.com: "I had read Edie Sedgwick's biography and I was kind of inspired by her personality, or at least what I had read of it, and I wrote about the tragedy of that."
  • The band used to joke around in the studio that they imagined a glam movie star, like a Blanche DuBois, singing this cut. Rowsell recalled: "Whenever we did vocals for the song we were like 'channel that Blanche DuBois'."
  • The song featured in the trailer for the movie Trainspotting 2.
