Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Australian rock band Wolfmother's second studio album. Singer-guitarist Andrew Stockdale described it in a tweet as, "a rollicking viking song!"
  • Stockdale explained to the NME that the album title refers to a yoga position. He explained: "I did a yoga class and one of the poses we were doing was called 'cosmic egg', and I thought yeah, that's it. It's like the fetal pose."
  • In our interview with Andrew Stockdale, he said that inspiration tends to strike late in the writing process: he'll bring in a bunch of songs, but once the start working on those, more develop as they get in a groove. "Cosmic Egg" is an example of one of these tracks that was written late in the sessions.

  • Zachary from State College, PaAll I can possibly say is ... wow! I don't care what critics say about them, Wolfmother is easily one of the better bands of the modern day (with Coldplay and Muse). I don't know what the song is about (but it sure don't sound viking!), but the best part of any song is the guitar solo (and if the song doesn't have one, it is not truly complete)
