Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the fifth and final single from Wretch 32's debut studio album, Black and White. The song features singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, and was released on May 20, 2012. The London rapper told Digital Spy why they waited so long before releasing the collaboration between the two English hitmakers. "Honestly, we just put out what we felt was right at the time," he said. "We've always wanted to put this record out - we were originally going to release it last year - but it's mad difficult when both artists are in separate campaigns. Everything always clashes. The song has become a fan favourite so I'm pleased to finally get it out there."
  • The song is an adaptation of the American lullaby, "Hush, Little Baby" and was produced by the team TMS and penned by Wretch 32 and Sheeran alongside Iain James (Professor Green's "Read All About It"). Wretch 32 is not the first rapper to adapt the traditional children's song. In 2005, Eminem adapted "Hush, Little Baby" into a tune called "Mockingbird" for his daughter. Other manifestations of the lullaby into a popular song, include a different hit tune titled "Mockingbird", by the brother-and-sister team, Inez and Charlie Foxx, in 1963 and an Elvis Presley track called "Puppet On A String" from the 1965 film Girl Happy.
