Songfacts®:

  • Known for a time as "2 Be Continuum," WZRD is a rock band formed by Kid Cudi and producer Dot da Genius. The pair originally worked together on Cudi's 2009 hit "Day 'n' Nite." Originally the duo were going to be called Wizard, but in April 2011 Cudi explained during a show at New York City's Roseland Ballroom Kid that he changed the name of the band to "2 Be Continuum" as, "I needed something more original, something different, but it's still wizardry at its finest." The duo changed their moniker yet again when Cudi announced on November 18, 2011, that their debut album would be released under the collaborative name of WZRD. This is their debut single, which was released on May 31, 2011.
  • The song is quite different from Kid Cudi's previous material. It features the Cleveland Hip-Hop artist playing guitar and has a dark rock feel. He told MTV News that any criticism comes from closed-minded people. "It's just some people who are very one-track minded. The world that I am coming from, hip-hop, is so regurgitated and repetitive that some people are used to that and they don't want change, they don't like change," he maintained. "And I get that, that's cool. Luckily for me, I'm confident in myself as an artist where I can do what I want, and as long as I'm cool with it, I'm cool with it."
