Songfacts®:

  • Yael Naim was raised in Israel and moved to France when she was 20 years old. In her musical journey, she was signed to a major label and released a disappointing debut album in 2001, and then returned with a more intricate and personal effort in 2007, which included the hit song "New Soul." Her third album, She Was a Boy, deals with changes, acceptance and finding happiness. Regarding the song "Today," Naim told us: "This one is about a change when you grow in a way, and you discover who you are. And then as you grow a little better, you discover that it's really far from being perfect and far from the only thing you can be proud of. You can say, Okay, today here is what I found out about myself. And it's been years that I'm looking to find real happiness and then to find peace of mind and then become something you are happy with. I'm always trying to find a solution for this endless situation of trying to be okay with who you are and to feel okay, now I can accept it. But maybe you can never have them, I mean, the whole process of just trying to know this and be better." (Check out our full interview with Yael Naim.)
