Songfacts®:

  • "Frágil" is the first collaborative effort between American sibling trio Yahritza y Su Esencia and Texan band Grupo Frontera. Both groups specialize in regional Mexican music. The song paints a vivid picture of vulnerability and the tumultuous nature of love.
  • "Frágil" is a vulnerable exchange between Yahritza, the frontwoman of Yahritza Y Su Esencia, and Grupo Frontera singer Payo. The pair bare the raw essence of heartache and the intricacies of shattered emotions following a relationship split.

Yahritza exposes the depths of her heart's fragility, grappling with the aftermath of a painful breakup. With unwavering resolve, the teenage singer-songwriter passionately chants:

    (Translated into English)
Why don't I have a heart like that?
Like the one they gave you, because the one I have is fragile
That's why you easily broke it

Payo responds to Yahritza's lament, yearning for a heart like the one given to others, questioning why the one that touched him is so delicate. He sorrowfully expresses,

    (Translated not English)
That's why you broke it easy

The lyrics echo the unspoken thoughts and lingering questions that haunt those who have suffered emotional wounds.
  • Yahritza co-wrote the song with Keityn, Luis Angel O'Neill and the track's producer, Edgar "Edge" Barrera.

Colombian songwriter Keityn's resumé also includes Maluma's "Hawái," Karol G and Nicki Minaj's "Tusa," and Ed Sheeran and J Balvin's " Forever My Love."

Puerto-Rican songwriter Luis Angel O'Neill also co-penned CNCO's collaboration with Little Mix, "Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos)" and Wisen & Yandel's "Algo Me Gusta De Ti."

Miami-based Mexican songwriter/producer Edge previously worked with Grupo Frontera on their collaborations with Fuerza Regida ("Bebe Dame"), Carín León ("Que Vuelvas") and Bad Bunny ("Un x100to").
  • Edge's production fuses norteño and cumbia, creating a hard-hitting sonic experience that has become Frontera's signature. However, for Yahritza Y Su Esencia, who are renowned for their melancholic sierreño style, the sound takes them into uncharted territory.
  • Barrera originally sent "Frágil" to the Mexican singer-songwriter Christian Nodal, but Nodal never recorded it.

One day Barrera had a session booked in with Yahritza at 11 a.m. but he didn't have anything written for her. He called Keityn and reminded her about "Frágil." She recorded it, and when Grupo Frontera jumped on, he had Juan Javier Cantu play the accordion the day before his wedding. It was right before he left on honeymoon.
