Songfacts®:

  • The summer of 2022 found Yeat on a crest of a wave. His debut album, 2 Alivë, debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 in February and he garnered his first Hot 100 hit, "Rich Minion," in June. "Talk" finds the Portland-raised rapper celebrating his come-up and flaunting his new wealth and success.
  • The song starts with a clip from a fan interview outside Yeat's February 2022 2 Alivë listening party at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles. The event was oversold and some fans tried to rush the venue without tickets. Because of the chaos the police shut it down.
  • During the single verse, Yeat details his disdain for snitches, gossipers, and haters.

How you gon' talk to a rat?
How you gon' talk to the feds?
How you gon' talk to the shmeds?
Now you gon' talk to the lead

As far as Yeat is concerned, these people are all talk and no trousers. He couldn't care less what they have to say because they haven't achieved anything near his level of success.
  • After Yeat first previewed "Talk" on June 15, 2022 through his Instagram, it caught the attention of TikTok. The song went viral on the platform before the rapper released it as the lead single from his Lyfë EP on September 2, 2022.
  • Philadelphia producer BNYX (Pronounced Benny X) created the beat. A member of the producer collective Working on Dying, BNYX produced six tracks on Lyfë.
